Bedrock custom skin import not working

Resolve import failed, duplicate pack and missing import controls in Bedrock.

Verification status: reference checklist. No claim of completed game-client import tests.

Use this guide when the file is rejected or the import control is unavailable.

Import failed: inspect the file and package. Duplicate pack: inspect existing packs and UUIDs. No response: check the file association and try the PNG path. If the skin imported but does not display, use the display guide.

Step by step

  1. Inspect the file

General · Java and Bedrock; version varies

Use an original skin PNG; 64×64 is the standard. Some clients support 128×128, but support varies. A skin .mcpack needs a valid root manifest.json, skins.json and matching image paths.

  2. Update and retry

General · Java and Bedrock; version varies

Update Minecraft and retry the import. Check the filename and extension, or try a different file manager and Open with Minecraft.

  3. Resolve duplicate packs

General · Java and Bedrock; version varies

Back up your files. Inspect existing copies and package UUIDs; remove only the duplicate you recognize or build a separately identified pack with distinct header and module UUIDs.

  4. Try the PNG path

General · Java and Bedrock; version varies

On a supported Windows or mobile client, use the Dressing Room owned classic skins Import control and select the PNG.

Questions & answers

What does Import failed mean?

Check the package structure, referenced files and compatibility, then retry with an updated client.

What does Duplicate pack mean?

An existing package can have the same identity. Back up and inspect known duplicates and UUIDs before removing or rebuilding anything.

Why does opening the file do nothing?

Check the extension and file association, try another file manager, or import the original PNG through the Dressing Room.

Why is Import missing?

The option depends on platform and version; console clients generally do not expose the same arbitrary file import controls.

What if it imported but does not show?

Use the Bedrock skin not showing guide to investigate visibility and sync.
