Convert and download the resulting PNG, then inspect it.
The Minecraft skin converter changes a skin PNG between the Classic and Slim arm layouts, or expands a legacy 64×32 texture to the modern 64×64 layout. Classic arms are four pixels wide and Slim arms are three. The converter remaps the corresponding arm faces; the rest of a modern square texture is retained. Because the widths differ, an arm detail may be resampled or repeated and the conversion is not guaranteed to be reversible without loss.
For a modern skin, choose the model of the file you already have. With Classic selected, the downloaded result uses Slim arms; with Slim selected, it uses Classic arms. The source must be a square 64×64 or 128×128 PNG with valid required base pixels and no partial alpha. The result keeps that resolution. This tool does not turn a photograph into a skin or guarantee that a particular client supports 128×128 textures.
Choose your PNG, select its source arm model, leave the legacy option off, and choose Convert & download. Open the downloaded file in the skin editor with the opposite model selected. Rotate the preview and look closely at the arm faces and their seams. If a stripe, sleeve or hand detail looks different, adjust the pixels manually and export a new PNG. Keep the original if you may need it again.
For a legacy 64×32 file, select the legacy option instead. The converter mirrors the original arm and leg faces into the modern layout and produces a Classic 64×64 PNG; the source-model selector does not make this legacy result Slim. If you need Slim arms, run a second conversion on the resulting Classic file. The file checker can then inspect the result, but only an import test in your intended game and device confirms that it works there.
The example below uses the downloadable Classic teaching template as the input and shows the actual Slim PNG downloaded from this converter. The color blocks identify body regions rather than finished clothing. The source and result both measure 64×64; the result passed the Slim file checks with no non-opaque required base pixels or partial-alpha pixels. You can download the source, select Classic, and reproduce the conversion yourself.
A file check evaluates dimensions and transparency, not visual quality or game compatibility. Modern conversion rejects a source with invalid base transparency or partially transparent pixels; open it in the editor, repair those pixels and retry. A legacy conversion requires exactly 64×32. Renaming another format to .png is not a conversion. The selected file is sent for processing, while your original file is not overwritten.
The teaching template was converted with this tool. The guide colors make the change in arm layout easier to inspect.

The conversion remaps arm faces to the target model; inspect seams afterward.
